A few months ago, I did an art demonstration during a birthday party for a group of six year old girls. I showed them how they to could create little mini paintings to be displayed on mini easels. I had a canvas board on which I demonstrated some basic techniques. And I also had prepared a small sample of completed paintings for them to find inspiration. It was a fun afternoon for all!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
These two paintings were inspired by the birth of my friends' adorable
little baby girl. I wanted to do something with her unique name so I decided to incorporate her first initial and her first name
into my geometric grid. Then I decided the second painting should be of
her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio so she would always know where she came from. Since pastels are typical for a little girl's room, I decided to take the opportunity to experiment with a slightly different color palette. I must say I am very happy with the results.<br />

focusing on details to my more abstract view of breaking down structure
into geometric shapes, it will have something for everyone. Please see below for a sneak peak of what you will see.</span></div>

<br />
This doodle of mine goes way back to high school. I love to doodle...always have, always will. So whether I was in a lecture or study hall, I would draw on my lined notebook paper with whatever writing instrument was in my hand. If I remember correctly, I usually used pencil. Back then I would fill a entire page with one...wish I still had one to share with you. My doodle above is something I did recently. My husband looked at it and said to me "you should turn that into a painting". So hear are the results....<br />

But while I was getting work together for a gallery in Tremont, I decided to add it to the collection. Last fall, I met with Rose, the owner of The Sacred Squirrel, about displaying my work there. While I was showing her my fish paintings, she suggested that I do the same but with squirrels. I thought this was a great idea so I decided to painted the first two "Nut Hugger" and "Kent". They are currently available at The Sacred Squirrel in Kent, Ohio. I loved how the first two turned out and decided to paint "Nut Hugger II" in a neutral color palette. It currently resides in my home because I'm not sure that I'm ready to part with it.</td></tr>

So I may not be the green thumb in the family...no that title belongs to my husband, Craig...lucky for me since I have found great inspiration from the flowers that he grows. One beautiful summer day back in Tallmage, Ohio, I decided to go out on our patio and paint what was around me. Turns out the daylillies were in full bloom...and so was our orchid. Here are some photos of the pieces I was inspired to paint.</td></tr>

Bogota, Columbia was painted for a good friend of mine. I started by painting a sketch on canvas paper. I rarely sketch with even a pencil or pen before I paint, which makes this painted sketch even more rare. I love how well it turned out and I plan on having it matted and framed. I wish that I had a better photo of the finished painting other than this photo with it on an easel in my garage.</div>Harvaitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10663462036786173486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5666917648865081969.post-27980385334664312142011-11-28T12:10:00.000-08:002011-11-28T12:10:58.469-08:00"Frank" Frankfort, Germany<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q4czrDo2AhQ/TtPogBdJcsI/AAAAAAAAAJc/ewlqNvVeK4M/s1600/IMG_5691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q4czrDo2AhQ/TtPogBdJcsI/AAAAAAAAAJc/ewlqNvVeK4M/s320/IMG_5691.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

My first few cityscapes were non-specific cities...I just used my imagination. Since then I have painted cities including Frankfort, Bogota, Cleveland and Chicago. I do not use any straight edge or tape when I paint. I like the character of a free hand drawn line. When I paint...it is the canvas, brush and paint. My paintings are all original one of a kind pieces of art.Harvaitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10663462036786173486noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5666917648865081969.post-77331281713039693462011-11-27T15:32:00.000-08:002012-07-12T14:54:54.461-07:00Mini Canvas on Easel<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These Mini Canvas on Easels are not only fun to paint but also make great gifts. I started by painting abstract geometric mini's. I enjoyed experimenting with different color palettes and shapes. Later this year, I started to paint other subject matter including non-specific cityscapes, trees/landscapes, Cleveland and Chicago. Looking to expand on the cities that I paint.<br />
